To control a people you must first control what they think about themselves and how they regard their history and culture… if you expect the present day school system to give history to you, then you are dreaming (Dr John Henrik Clarke).

How, then, can the current system with its dominance of whiteness teach Black children their correct culture and history?

This we have to do ourselves- people don’t beg other people to restore their history, they do it themselves (Dr John Henrik Clarke).

Until we start teaching correct knowledge of history ourselves, both here in the British Isles, and its cultural connection with the rest of the world, last night’s racial abuse will remain as it always has within the dominant culture. Football cannot solve racism…

Let’s hope that all of those Black footballers are being supported in their mental and emotional well-being.

But, as Dr Asa Hilliard reminds us “We have lost our appetite because we have lost our names and culture. Even when those among us recreate our culture and present it to us, we no longer have an appetite for it. We have a greater appetite for the culture of people other than ourselves”.
